King of Cups Tarot Card Meanings

In this court card’s image we see a king sitting on his throne.  He holds a cup in one hand and a scepter in the other.  Although we can see a ship in the distance to one side and a smiling fish to his other, there is nothing else around him except water, and yet here he sits on his throne amongst the waves.

We know by now that the cups represent emotions.  As inaccurate as it may be, men are often regarded as not being very emotional, yet this king is literally riding emotional waves.  This tells me that he is probably softer and more emotionally open than some of his male counterparts.  He is evidently totally comfortable with being emotional.  But the fact that he is surrounded by these waves and therefore emotions makes me wonder exactly how accessible is he?  While I think it is wonderful that he is so at ease with his emotions, I think sometimes he may become too mired in them.
