Queen of Swords Tarot Card Meanings

313 Queen of SwordsThe image on this court card shows a queen in profile as she sits on her throne.  She has one hand raised and extended before her and in her other hand she holds a sword.

This queen exudes power, confidence and wisdom.  I always see her as a strong ruler and there is nothing soft about the way she sits on the throne; she sits up straight looking directly ahead.  She raises her hand as if to impart her wisdom and the way she holds her sword makes me think she would act swiftly to bring justice as well, much like the figure on the Justice card.

She appears to be a confident, self-assured ruler.  Unlike the other queens, this one has little around her in terms of landscape, showing that her strength seems to come from herself.   In fact the symbol carved at the bottom of her throne is a butterfly, which represents change and transformation.  This would suggest that this queen has gone through much to become who she is now.  The characteristics associated with the Queen of Swords appear to be what most societies would consider as more masculine than feminine, and while this makes her incredibly strong and independent, it could also mean that others find her lacking warmth at times.
