Magician Tarot Card Meanings
The image on this card seems to depict some kind of ceremony. The figure in the centre of the card is dressed in robes and standing before what appears to be an altar with various articles on it. He has a lemniscate above his head; a sideways figure ‘8’ which symbolizes infinity. He has a wand in his right hand and this is raised and pointing to the sky. His left hand is pointing to the ground.
Much like the Fool card before, there is the sense of beginning something; the Magician is just starting his ceremony. There is an air of purpose and wisdom about the scene as he is dressed in his robes ready for the coming ceremony and has all the necessary tools ready. In fact on the table before him are a cup/chalice, a pentacle/coin, a wand/stave and a sword; the four suits of the tarot. He is very determinedly holding his position and it gives me the sense that he is channeling energy from the sky to the earth. Furthermore the Infinity symbol also gives me a sense of this connection; there is no beginning and no end. The scene around him is lush and fertile with beautiful flowers and shrubbery which tells me the time and setting is perfectly right.
The story this card tells me is of starting something; a project, a task, a new part of life. The Magician is wise and has all the knowledge needed to complete the task. His robes and surroundings also tell me that he is ready and in addition, the tools before him show that he has all that he needs to get the job done.
The Magician’s stance of channelling energy shows that his energies are directed clearly and in the right direction. This channelling of energies is in a sense communication and would therefore suggest good and clear communication.
This card seems to send out a message of a strong start, great communication and the abilities and tools necessary to get the job done.
