Apocalypse Not-Now: What’s Happening Post 2012?

Apocalypse Not-Now - What’s Happening Post 2012We’re coming to the end of summer 2013 and it hardly seems possible that this time last year the world was in the grip of apocalypse mania.  It seemed we were all waiting for 21 December 2012, whether we thought the world would end or not.  In fact, I was quite surprised by the number of people that were affected by the countdown to that date.  My own father has never done anything but derided any kind of superstition or conspiracy theory, and yet even he went out in December and came home with gallons and gallons of bottled water and candles…”just in case”.

If you read my article from last year What is the Personal and Global Significance of 2012? you’ll recall that I said “I don’t believe for one second that the world will end this year” and so when I woke up on the morning of 22 December 2012 and the world was still here, it didn’t really come as a shock.  But the months since then have been hard in many ways and for many people.  Personally, I have experienced a change in my fundamental beliefs and this has impacted all areas of my life and helped me to choose a new path, and I will be writing more about this in the coming months.  Several people I have spoken to have claimed that this has been the hardest year of their lives, and I can relate to that.  But why?  What is happening?

Undoubtedly the ongoing economic situations and the aim of most governments to not only abandon but actively malign those that are the poorest and neediest in our societies continue to affect people.  However, there are those that say there is a more profound energy at work.  There were many people who had been proclaiming for a long time that December 2012 held no danger and that the following years would see a time of hardship, but their voices were not heard over the din of the apocalypse criers.  At one end of the spectrum there are people like Mike Adams; you can watch his youtube video 20 Predictions for 2013  if you want to know more about what he has to say.  At the other end, with a less political more spiritual viewpoint, there are those who claim this is the Awakening which begun on 21 December 2012.  To learn more about that, read How Many of These 51 Spiritual Awakening Symptoms do YOU Have? on IN5D.

I’m not sure how I feel about the date 21 December 2012, but what I do feel is that people are being brought to the truth about the way we are running this world.  Whether we are being brought to our knees via financial ruin or emotional distress or just from watching others go through hardships, we are all beginning to realise that life cannot continue the way it has and that fundamental change is required.  I do believe that this change must affect every aspect of life, and that the longer we refuse to accept this, the harder things will become.  All I can urge everyone to do is to face the truth and to not hide from it, but also to hold on to the hope that things can change and get better as long as we can.
